Essence Richardson is a documentary photographer, cultural archivist, and multidisciplinary artist and educator who builds a visual record of human presence. Working in analog and digital photography as well as mixed media, she observes how people relate to the spaces they inhabit and to each other, and how those relationships echo patterns found in the natural world. Each image serves as evidence: proof that a person or place existed. Documenting communities over time, she uses photography to preserve experiences that would otherwise go unrecorded.
